This week was not my most productive week. Aside from studying for the November SAT, I had a horrible migraine on Tuesday and Wednesday. I was supposed to share my Quick Trip speech on Wednesday, so I had to go on Friday. As it slowly crept closer and closer to my turn, that familiar feeling of butterflies began to fill my stomach like a swarm. The swarm finally settled, but soon came back as my principal, Dr. Gray, walked in. Not only now do I have to share my speech in front of my peers and teacher, but my principal too! Cue the paper bag cartoon stereotype. I took a lot of long, calming breaths to bring my heart rate down. “I can do this”. “I’ve practiced multiple times and I am ready to do this”. As I gave my speech to my audience, I felt more and more comfortable. I think it was because of my topic. I believe the more passionate you are about a certain topic, the easier it is to talk to people in general. As I finished my speech, I saw my principal leave giving me a round of applause which made me gleam with pride. I've never felt this new wave of confidence. I feel more ready not only to give speeches but talk to professionals.
